After 10 months of living in Alaska, I can now say I’ve lived through all of the state’s seasons: the season of snow tires and the season without (This is only kind of a joke).
Memorial Day marks the official start of summer in Anchorage: construction has begun, the cruise ships are coming in and at a high of 60-something degrees, I’m rolling around with the A/C blasting (This is absolutely not a joke).
But while the season here has changed, some things for yours truly have undoubtedly stayed the same.
Still Best Dressed:
For me, pretty much every day in Anchorage is a mixture of “I love your shoes!” and “How can you even WALK in those?” – and, honestly, I don’t mind one bit.
Summer means that hair-and-makeup sessions no longer happen in vain. Now that I’ve peeled off the winter layers, I get more chances to show off my fabulously imported wardrobe against the beautiful Alaskan backdrop — and, of course, the shoes. Oh, the shoes.
I’m happy to report, though, that for this particular photoshoot, most of the pieces are local!! — er, sort of…local as in I didn’t have them delivered to my doorstep. See the end of this post for details!
This story is titled “Sierra meets the Chester Creek Trail.”
So, I heard there was a female stilter who lived in town (yes, like a woman on stilts…y’all know how I feel about #girlpower). I got super excited and insisted that I be the one to tell the story.
Bbuuuuutttt, this was before I knew there was a park and a trail and woods and palm-sized mosquitoes and wetlands and, well, nature involved.
Mind you, I just got over my refusal to drive past the “Look out for moose” signs in Anchorage. (I got over it once I realized moose are literally EVERYWHERE. The moose signs just existed to play with my emotions)
Back to Chester Creek — So, I braved the elements with two pair of leggings, a long-sleeved sweater and my fab combat boots.
I came home with 25 mosquito bites (no exaggeration). Oh, and something made me bleed.
Still Searching for My Alaskan Prince Charming?
(…Ha! Couldn’t resist.)
Y’all. When I meet a man in Alaska, my first question is, “Are you married?”
–My second question is “Are you sure?”
And if he passes those two, I look at his Instagram and it’s all pictures of his dog. His dog in the park with the trail in the woods with the palm-sized mosquitoes and wetlands.
‘Nuff said. I’ll leave you with that.

Dear East Coast friends, I’ll be seeing you in August.
Also, I’m ending on the my-hair-won’t-cooperate outtake, b/c………..legs.
